Access Company Policies
On the 2 January 2007, the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations came into force. WEEE is a new piece of legislation, which aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) ending up in landfill. The regulations require the collection, treatment, and recycling and environmentally sound disposal of WEEE. The regulations affect all brand owners, importers and distributors or retailers of EEE.
Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination - harming wildlife and also human health.
To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.
Under the Waste Battery Regulations, Access Stairlifts and Mobility are now offering a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries. You can return your waste batteries to our business premises in person (PLEASE DO NOT POST).
Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at www.recyclenow.com
Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also set up collection points. End-users may find stores in their local area more accessible. Access Stairlifts and Mobility as a distributor of new EEE have to ensure that WEEE sold to private households can be returned to them on a one for one basis. The WEEE returned to them should be of equivalent type and should fulfil the same function as the new EEE purchased. Access Stairlifts and Mobility will not charge for the Free in-store take back of WEEE.
Access Stairlifts and Mobility in compliance with this directive:
- Provide Free in-store take back of all types of EEE sold
- Will record the numbers of units, by category that we receive through take back of WEEE
- Any WEEE returned to Access Stairlifts and Mobility need not have been purchased from them but must be of an equivalent type and function to new EEE purchased from Access Stairlifts and Mobility
All WEEE returned to Access Stairlifts and Mobility will be stored and transported for treatment in compliance with the directive.
Your WEEE can be returned in person to our showroom at:
